Purpose
To formalize a commitment to ongoing assessment based on a culture of evidence and leading to continuous improvement for all divisions of California State University Channel Islands.
Background
California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) is committed to conducting sustained, evidence-based, and participatory discussions on how effectively it is accomplishing its purposes and objectives. In order to fulfill the mission and goals of the university, faculty and staff of CSUCI must participate in an ongoing process to determine how well and in what ways individual divisions and the university are meeting their individual and collective goals.

The assessment process will be a continuous effort that will involve faculty, staff and other concerned stakeholders and will directly inform University activities. Each division of CSUCI will define its goals and methods of assessment and explore new methods of evaluation. Each division will collect and analyze data on effectiveness on an annual basis and respond with changes to improve effectiveness. Specific steps to implement this policy include:
- Each division shall formulate a set of program objectives consistent with the mission of the university, the program, and the standards of the discipline/area.
- All divisions shall engage in ongoing assessment and improvement activities and shall report on these activities to the President on an annual basis.
- Each division shall designate an assessment coordinator; a university-wide assessment director shall be appointed by the President.
