Purpose

Affords students the opportunity to investigate the multi-dimensional  culture of the Chicana/o community in the United States from various ways of knowing. Therefore the minor is, by definition, interdisciplinary and seeks to provide students with a nuanced appreciation of this population.

Background

In addition to providing students with a nuanced understanding of the history and culture of the Chicana/o community, the rigor of this area of study enhances the skills of critical thought as well as expression written and verbal. Employers within and outside of the public sector value not only these competencies but also seek out individuals sensitive to the background and world view of people of Mexican heritage considering the ever increasing influence of this population on our society.
