Purpose

The Spanish minor provides students the opportunity to develop their Spanish-language skills while deepening their knowledge of the peoples and cultures of the Hispanic world. Students can choose from coursework which focuses on language, linguistics, culture, Spanish careers, literature and art or history.

Background

Spanish is spoken by approximately 400 million people in 21 countries, and it is the unofficial second language of California, as well as many parts of the United States. The Spanish minor helps students develop their language skills while they develop an appreciation for Spanish-speaking people and their culture. Being bilingual is a tremendous asset and can open doors to student entering numerous occupations and careers, such as agriculture, business, government, health services, journalism, law, social services, and teaching.
